VIRIDITAS
A Song to Flora
Viriditas, which in Latin means "greenness," is the title of Colombian artist and ceramist Carol Young's most recent exhibition; it is an ode to the plant world, to its vitality and exuberance. The forms gathered in this exhibition, fantastic, relics of an archaic flora, are born from the value that Young gives to viriditas as the power of plants to grow and heal. They are her tribute to the dream forest, cultivated patiently, lovingly and that today surrounds and inhabits her. Living, vibrant forms of essential beauty that combine human and natural intelligence, in the tactile seduction of the ancient alchemy of clay.

Using ceramics as her primary medium, Carol Young’s installations and sculptures transcend the standard perception of the material, creating work that is unique, challenging and beautiful. Her relationship with ceramics is intimate, the creation of her pieces, intuitive. She has the ability to emulate the organic, to mold and manipulate the material, producing objects that could almost appear in nature. However, Carol Young’s work cannot exist on its own. It relies on the attention, the contemplation of the viewer; for it is them who will ultimately endow these forms with meaning.

Un canto a la flora
Viriditas, que en latín significa "verdor", es el término que da título a la presente muestra de la artista Carol Young, una oda al mundo vegetal, a su vitalidad y exuberancia. Las formas reunidas en esta exposición, fantásticas, reliquias de una flora arcaica, nacen del valor que Carol le otorga a viriditas como el poder de las plantas para crecer y sanar. Son su homenaje al bosque soñado, cultivado paciente, amorosamente y que hoy la rodea y la habita. Formas vivas, vibrantes, de una belleza esencial que aúna inteligencia humana y natural, en la seducción táctil de la alquimia antigua de la arcilla.

Usando la cerámica como su medio principal, las instalaciones y esculturas de Carol Young trascienden la percepción general del material, creando así un trabajo único, desafiante y hermoso. Su relación con la cerámica es íntima, el desarrollo de sus piezas intuitivo. Tiene la habilidad para emular lo orgánico, para moldear y manipular el material para crear objetos que podrían existir en la naturaleza. Pero en realidad son creaciones propias, resultado de su conocimiento de la cerámica, de su habilidad para interpretarla y re-significarla. Sin embargo, las piezas de Carol Young no pueden existir por sí solas. Requieren de la atención, de la contemplación del espectador para cobrar vida. Ellos serán quienes dotarán de sentido sus formas.
