His characters, both real and psychological, are mirrors that reflect our own contradictions.

The Silent Observer

From a bird’s-eye view, from the corner of a street, from the shadow of a farmer: Armando Castro-Uribe observes. He looks at the world with the sensitivity of someone who knows that everything —even the smallest gesture— holds a universe. His work, patiently and quietly woven, is the testimony of a silent observer who feeds on humanity to transform it into art.

In this exhibition —rare and precious— Castro-Uribe opens a door to his gaze: drawings on cardboard, oils filled with messages, farmers carrying hoes turned into rifles, men and women trapped between the earth, the sky, and the ghosts of violence. Each work is a question, never a closed answer. In his figures, social critique seeps through, along with the tenderness of encounter and the harshness of context —always with subtlety, always with depth.

There is in his work a fierce empathy, an impulse to step into the shoes of the other: the recycler who gathers dreams in his cart as if they were clouds, the farmer breathing glyphosate through his mask as he plows the land, the young people living with a cellphone as an appendage, oblivious to their surroundings. His characters, both real and psychological, are mirrors that reflect our own contradictions.

In times of noise and haste, this exhibition invites us to pause. To observe, like him, with eyes wide open, yet unseen. To discover in every line a story that is not fully told —because the final word, as always, belongs to the one who stops to look.
